8D Problem Solving (RCA)

When tackling problems, all too often people jump straight to the solution (‘jumping to conclusions’) without a thorough analysis of the causes. The result is that the solution is not structural and the problem will recur. The 8D Problem Solving Process is a standardised step-by-step plan, within which a problem is solved in eight steps. Within the automotive and high-tech sectors, an 8D approach is standard practice when there are issues with delivered products. Searching for the root cause is also known as ‘Root Cause Analysis’ (RCA).

Who is this training for?

Anyone who is directly or indirectly involved in solving problems and wants to use a structured method to do so. Departments such as product development, production, and quality will find added value in this.

The educational level is HBO/HBO+ (Higher Professional Education).

What will you learn?

After this workshop, participants will be familiar with the 8D approach and a number of powerful tools for tackling problems. Furthermore, participants will take part in a concrete 8D project in which various techniques are applied to solve the problem.

8D training structure: 1 or 2 days

This training is standardly delivered in one day, but can also be extended. In the 1-day training, the focus is more on theory. In the 2-day training, current problems are incorporated into the training. The approach is then more practical than in the 1-day training.

Participants learn the various steps of the 8D approach and are introduced to techniques such as 5 Whys, Ishikawa, and root cause analyses. Subsequently, they work in teams on a current problem from their own organisation following the 8D approach. In this way, participants not only gain knowledge of RCA tools and problem-solving techniques, but they also work on solving a concrete and current problem.

After completing the training, you will receive a certificate of attendance from Symbol.
