Design for Excellence (DfX).
In today’s competitive marketplace, it is essential to design products and processes that meet high quality standards and efficiency from the outset. ‘Design for Excellence’ (DfX) is a method that introduces concurrent engineering, where engineering activities are performed in parallel with the goal of increasing productivity and product quality. ‘Design for X’ includes several specific design guidelines, such as Design to Cost, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly and Design for Serviceability.
For whom
This Design for Excellence training is designed for engineers (design, process and quality) and project managers involved in new products and processes, who want to act at a high level of quality from the first day of production or market introduction.
Objective
After attending this training, participants will be able to apply the principles and methods of DfX to improve product quality and productivity as well as learn to implement specific design guidelines such as Design to Cost, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly and Design for Serviceability. During this training, we follow the DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify) model to avoid problems within innovation projects and achieve a Six Sigma quality level from market introduction. However, this two-day training does not go as deep as the 5-day Design for Sigma training at the Green Belt level.
Content
- Introduction to DfX: Background, importance and overview of ‘Design for X’ guidelines.
- Design to Cost (DTC): Cost reduction in the design process.
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM): Design with a focus on manufacturability and manufacturing efficiency.
- Design for Assembly (DFA): optimization of assembly processes.
- Design for Serviceability: Maintenance-friendly and service-oriented design.
- Design for Six Sigma (DfSS): introduction to systematic approach using DfSS techniques.
- The DMADV model: Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify and application in innovation projects.
- Practical Implementation: Cases, workshops, exercises and best practices.
