Lean Black Belt Certification

The Lean Black Belt certification program consists of a theoretical and a practical part. You will receive a partial certificate for both elements. The full Lean Black Belt certificate requires a passing grade in both the theoretical and practical parts.

Exam criteria

The criteria for examination were determined by the LSSA and are described in a skill set for each of the Belt levels. This is an overview of elements you must know and be able to do as a participant. The level at which the elements should be able to be applied are also named.

Part II – Practical examination

The requirements for the Lean Black Belt practical exam are as follows:

  • Two Lean projects per person must be submitted at CIMM Level III or higher.
  • The projects have a significant impact on the organization. This means, for example, a financial impact of at least €50,000 on an annual basis or a relevant CTQ is significantly improved (e.g. lead time). A 5S implementation or a small Kaizen project is not enough.
  • Projects should follow the DMAIC roadmap.
  • Projects are signed off by the Champion and/or Financial controller. They thereby certify that the project was professionally executed and improvements were secured.
  • The language of the submitted project is English or Dutch.
  • Each submitted project has only one Project Manager
  • Projects must be submitted within three years of passing the theoretical exam.

The project will be reviewed by Master Black Belts assigned by the LSSA. We recommend that the project be reviewed by an internal Lean Black Belt or Master Black Belt before submission. The result of the practical assessment will be pass (pass) or fail (fail). No score is given. In the case of a failing grade, brief feedback will be given regarding criteria considered “missing” or “incorrect. Then the project can be resubmitted once.

You can register only if you have taken your theory classes at Symbol. If that’s not the case then you should go to www.lssa.eu to sign up.
